14 songs in 28 days

February 28th, 2011

So my friend Steven Wilson of the mighty Plasticsoul informed me about this thing called February Album Writing Month (FAWM) which issues the challenge of writing and recording 14 songs in the 28 days of February. I love this kind of stuff, I assume, because I’m addicted to starting things I never finish.

Well this time I did finish (just barely), despite birthdays and weddings and travels to the other side of the country, and I’m happy to let you have the proceedings as one nice bundled up album of demolicious noise as a completely free download (you don’t even have to give me your email address)!

Download Demolicious Man [0211] (link takes you to my Bandcamp page)

Now, this is by no means an official album, but we can pretend it is if you like. While many of the songs were little more than sketches, a few turned out quite well considering the time constraints. I hope you’ll enjoy it….

If you’re interested, here’s the Marble Tea FAWM page.

As always, I encourage you to come be a friend at the Facebook Page and a get an exclusive and FREE 5-song EP!

Meet Me at the Gulf of Mexico (iPhone Demo)

Meet Me at the Gulf of Mexico

[Click the image above, or use the widget at the end of this post, to check out the new single!]

I feel a special connection with the Gulf of Mexico, particularly that stretch of shore along Florida’s panhandle. My grandparents had a house on the beach in Panama City, so my summers growing up were filled with white sand and blue-green waters, as well as all the adventures of my mischievous father and his brothers and clan.

Teenaged and college summers were spent predominately in Destin-Ft. Walton with an eye toward drinking and bikinis rather than the natural magic of the place, but by my settled-in adult years that sweet body of water had whispered the memories and promises back into my ear, planting the rhythm of its undulating waves firmly alongside my heartbeat.   (more…)

Tinkle, Winkle, Pobble & Bip

This month has really gotten away from me. Not that most of them don’t (Time: what a concept), but as much spinning of the wheels as there’s been, there’s also been some forward motion. Let me tell you first about this month’s song….

Tinkle, Winkle, Pobble & Bip is a 30-second theme song exercise for a children’s TV show in much the same vein as The Teletubbies. Four strange little creatures with funny-sounding names getting into all kinds of psychedelic adventures – what could be better than that? Obviously it’s geared toward a younger audience, but if you’re feeling a little silly it might hit the spot. (more…)

MP3: Good In Black (5.1 mb)

Hey, before you check out the new free blog song, let me tell you about the new free Marble Tea single. I’m calling it the Back in Time / Demi Moore Single since the song titles themselves are rather long. On the A-Side we have The Girls Who Went Back in Time and on the B-Side Please Don’t Cut Your Hair Like Demi Moore. These songs originally appeared on the out-of-print Jersey Shoreline CD, but they’ve been freshly remixed and mastered for your aural delight right here in the laboratory. You can download the single (for free, in case you didn’t hear) right here. (more…)

It just occurred to me that this is two months in a row where the songs dealt with wishing. Hhmmm, how ’bout that then? We could talk all night about wishing and dreaming (and hoping and praying, and anything else Burt and Dionne might warn you against), but there are other matters to address now so let’s save those explorations for another fireside, shall we?
